End of the 2016 Giving Year is Fast Approaching

It is with great pride and gratitude that I report that we are having another record-breaking fundraising year for our athletic programs. It is because of the continued generosity of our donors that we have been able to achieve these impressive results for the last two years.

When comparing our fundraising results to our fellow ACC schools, Wake Forest is the only school besides Clemson to grow cash gifts in each of the last three years from $13,182,000 in 2012 to $26,833,000 in 2015. In addition—and perhaps even more impressive—our new capital pledges over the last two years are the highest in the ACC with a two-year total of $47,100,000. That’s right—we are ACC Champions in the capital facility-funding race as we have numerous projects recently completed, under construction or pending groundbreaking.

However, as we wind down the 2016 giving year that ends on June 30, we need your help in continuing this impressive momentum in order to fulfill two critical areas of support.

The first critical area is our Annual Scholarship Fund. Our Annual Fund is the backbone of our program as all funds are devoted to offsetting scholarship costs. Last year our Annual Fund grew 9.11% representing the fifth highest growth rate in the ACC. However, the gap between funds raised for scholarships vs. scholarship costs continues to widen. In fact, 26.4% of the Wake Forest Athletic Department operating budget is spent each year on scholarships, one of the highest percentages in the ACC. Reducing this number through donations to the Annual Fund allows more dollars to be spent each year on the operating expenses of the department, increasing the ability to provide additional resources to our student-athletes.

So, how can you help? If you have not done so already, please be sure to renew your Deacon Club membership at 110% or a higher giving level by June 30. If you have already renewed, we cannot thank you enough for your support. If you’re interested in furthering your support, there’s still time to upgrade to a higher giving level. Donations can be made online by clicking here or by phone at 336-758-5626.

Secondly, we need to continue our facility build out by funding the remaining amount needed for the Sports Performance Center. You can help by supporting the Sports Performance Center match campaign that Bob McCreary and Ben Sutton have graciously agreed to extend. We are so close to completing the match and breaking ground on this critical and game-changing facility. To double your gift to the Sports Performance Center, please click here or call us at 336-758-5626.

June 30 is quickly approaching and I’m confident that we can fulfill these two areas that are so vital to the success of our programs. On behalf of the Deacon Club, I’d like to express our sincerest thanks to all of our donors for shaping the future of Wake Forest Athletics and allowing us to continue to Develop Champions.
