Everything You Need to Know About the Military Bowl

The Military Bowl is an early Christmas present for Wake Forest fans. I firmly believe in the statement that “any bowl is a good bowl”, but we truly couldn’t be happier about landing the Military Bowl and having the great opportunity to take on a ranked opponent on December 27 in Annapolis.

As told by the Winston-Salem Journal, the Wake Forest Athletic Department made their case for the Military Bowl in a unique way, to say the least. These efforts paid off when the Military Bowl picked Wake Forest over Boston College and NC State. Yes, it was an early Christmas present that will enable us all to be home for Christmas and still make the bowl game.

So, why did the Military Bowl pick us? The answer: our consistent record of rallying our fans and traveling to bowl games as evidenced below.

  1. We are still the only ACC team to completely sell out our total allotment of tickets to the Orange Bowl. We sold 17,500 tickets and had over 30,000 in attendance.
  2. We sold our allotment of 12,500 tickets and had over 35,000 in attendance at the 2007 Meineke Car Care Bowl.
  3. We again sold out our allotment for the third year in a row at the 2008 EagleBank Bowl.

Every time our team has reached a bowl, we have proven that we can and will travel. It is time for all of us to do our part and make plans to attend the upcoming Military Bowl.

Here are my top 10 reasons to travel to the Military Bowl:

  1. The Deacs are fun to watch and have worked tirelessly over the last three seasons under Coach Clawson; being much improved, they have earned our support.
  2. It’s a great way to spend time with family so get out of the house and on the road!
  3. Catch up with old friends by blocking your tickets together with extended family, teammates or classmates.
  4. Explore the great city of Washington, D.C. with endless sightseeing opportunities.
  5. In the heart of Washington, D.C. with convenient access to the Metro and walking distance to the White House and National Mall, the official Wake Forest fan and team hotel—the Mayflower—is only $117 per night. What?!
  6. Round trip shuttles are available from Washington, D.C. to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis for only $25/person, running continuously from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  7. Gather with fellow Wake Forest fans during the Official Wake Forest “Kick-Off” Party at City Tap House in Washington, D.C. on December 26.
  8. Attend the tailgate of all tailgates—the Official Wake Forest “Pre-Game” Tailgate—at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. With the Wake Forest tailgate lot located right next to the stadium, shuttle drop offs will be very convenient.
  9. Attend the Military Bowl Parade. Join fellow fans along the brick streets of downtown Annapolis. Parade begins at 10:30 a.m. and is open to all fans. The parade route ends at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
  10. Experience a game at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, which serves as a National Memorial dedicated to those who have served for the United States Navy and Marine Corps.

Please make plans to support the Deacs and attend the Military Bowl. Let’s uphold our reputation of traveling well which will help provide Wake Forest preferential bowl treatment in the future. For more details on tickets, events and travel, please see below.

I hope to see you in Annapolis! Go Deacs!
