From the Director of Athletics – September 2019

09/04/19

Good afternoon Demon Deacon parents,

I trust you had a great summer and are adjusting to having your sons or daughters back at school. A couple weeks ago, my wife Mary Lawrence and I dropped off our son Jack for the start of his freshman year, so I know the mix of strong emotions that come along with entrusting your student to the care of others. Rest assured, we do not take that responsibility lightly.

To that end, I want to “virtually” introduce you to Murphy Grant, Senior Associate Athletic Director/Athletics Healthcare Administrator. Murphy joined us August 20 in a new position leading our Sports Performance Team, which includes sports medicine, strength and conditioning, sports psychology and sports nutrition. As a member of our senior leadership team, Murphy will foster collaboration amongst these units as we seek to ensure Wake Forest provides the highest standard of student-athlete centered care, the safest possible environment and unchallengeable medical autonomy for our practitioners.  Feel free to welcome Murphy at grantm@wfu.edu.

As parents, I’m sure another area of interest to you is how you can see your kids compete when you can’t be there in person. By now you’ve likely heard that the ACC Network launched on August 22. We’ve already hosted three live events on the “main channel” and we are excited about what’s to come. Spectrum, DISH, DirecTV, Hulu and YouTube TV are among the largest carriers of ACCN thus far.  If your provider is not already carrying ACCN visit getaccn.com for more information on options in your area. Unfortunately, if you are a Comcast Cable subscriber, you do NOT have the ACC Network or ACC Network Extra. We have been asking Demon Deacon fans to contact their cable operator to demand they carry the ACC Network, but with the network now launched, Wake Forest fans who have Comcast may wish to switch providers to ensure they do not miss any more of the action.  Let’s keep the pressure on Comcast as well!

Thanks for reading. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions for future content, please let me know at wfuad@wfu.edu. You can also follow me on twitter @john_currie and I also encourage you to check out my From The Quad email updates.

I’m excited about what this year holds for the Deacs. I look forward to continuing to get to know your family better and seeing you at a Deacon contest soon!

Go Deacs!

John Currie
