Dear Deacon Club,
Homecoming is just around the corner and this year promises to be a momentous weekend. Not only do we host Maryland in a crucial football game, we will unveil the Arnold Palmer statue at the Arnold Palmer Golf Complex and the University will also kick off the public phase of the Capital Campaign.
The silent phase of the Capital Campaign has been encouraging. The overall success of the Campaign, however, will be determined by the public phase over the next four years. The Athletic Department will participate fully in the Campaign and our success is critical to the future excellence of our program. Many athletic projects are included in the Campaign. The two projects that have received the most attention thus far are a new Strength and Conditioning Center and the renovation of the coliseum. Other projects that are also important to our competitive success and fan experience are the Wake Forest Baseball Park renovation, the construction of the Golf House and the renovation of the Spry Soccer Stadium practice and game fields.
The Arnold Palmer statue unveiling at the Arnold Palmer Golf Complex will occur on Friday afternoon, Oct. 18. This statue has been in the making for two years and the result is something every Demon Deacon will want to see. If you can’t attend the unveiling, you will want to visit the Arnold Palmer Golf Complex sometime soon to look at it. One of the finest and most renowned sculptors in the country, Bruce Wolfe, is the artist and he has produced an incredible likeness of Arnold Palmer. Mr. Palmer and many of his family and friends will be in attendance for the unveiling and other events throughout the weekend.
Homecoming is always one of the highlight events each year. This year it is even more so with the Arnold Palmer statue unveiling festivities and Capital Campaign kick-off. I look forward to seeing you throughout the weekend!
