Robert Lewis “Doc” Martin was never a student athlete at Wake Forest, but as head athletic trainer for more than two decades, Martin forever impacted the athletics department. Doc was a consummate professional and tirelessly cared for student athletes’ injuries during his time at Wake Forest.
He was more than just a trainer, however; Doc was also a friend and mentor to student athletes, always looking to listen to their problems and offer a helping hand.
The Doc Martin Sports Medicine Enhancement Fund honors Doc’s legacy by supporting the Sports Medicine Department through developing more effective athletic training for student-athletes; encouraging youth with access to specialists such as nutritional counselors and sports psychologists; enhancing current training facilities with new equipment; and adding necessary Sports Medicine staff, student-workers, and interns.
