The Impact of Your Support

It’s hard to believe that the fall sports season is already upon us. Many of our teams have had an exciting start to the year—football is 2-0, volleyball won the Wake Forest Invitational and men’s soccer, women’s soccer and field hockey are nationally ranked.

As I look at our recent successes, I can’t help but think about the impact that you have made through your support of critical resources, including sports medicine, nutrition, travel and facilities. I have had the pleasure of witnessing this impact firsthand over the years, most recently last weekend as I traveled with our women’s soccer team to take on Michigan State in East Lansing. Thanks to funds raised through the Former Student-Athlete Giving Challenge last spring, the team had the opportunity to upgrade their travel for this important away game by chartering a plane, saving precious time and avoiding headaches associated with flying a team commercially. In addition, the team had the ability to maintain proper nutrition—even while on the road—thanks to assistance with meal planning by Director of Sports Nutrition, Kate Ruley, a position funded through donations to the Nutrition Fund.

These are just a few of the countless examples of how your donations are making an impact on our student-athletes and their ability to effectively train and compete, both at home and away. Moving forward, we will continue to enhance and expand upon these resources so that our student-athletes and coaches have every opportunity to succeed.

In closing, I am excited to share with you that in this year’s email newsletters you will be given an even more in-depth look at our operation through guest columns by some of our staff members. It is my hope that this change will provide you with more insight into some of our key priorities in the coming years, including the Annual Fund, endowment, capital projects and the Volunteer Army. Our first guest column will appear in the October email newsletter, so be sure to keep an eye out for it.

As always, thank you for all that you do for Wake Forest Athletics. I look forward to hopefully seeing you this weekend for Varsity Club Weekend/Homecoming.

Go Deacs!
